On January 19, 2011, the President hosted Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China, at the White House for an official State visit. This marked the third State Visit of the Obama Administration.
President Hu’s visit highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between the United States and China on bilateral, regional, and global issues, as well as the friendship between the peoples of our two countries.
President Obama’s 2009 visit to China generated excitement at all social levels throughout the country. Rather than being seen as a dry, political event with little relationship to ordinary people’s lives, President Obama’s trip energized Chinese and foreign residents alike.
The president to praised Beijing for its efforts to stimulate its economy, aiding a global recovery that is now gathering steam.
But he also pressed Beijing to allow its currency to appreciate and to speed up market reforms and give American companies greater access to its market, which could bolster American exports and help create jobs in the United States.
