P.O.U. Book Club

February 16, 2012 by pragobots 0 Comments

Calling all P.O.U. Bookworms! P.O.U will starting a book club. Twice a month we will discuss and read a book. The books will range from non-fiction to fiction. Majority of the authors highlighted will be African-American, but there will be some who are not. The books will cover a range of topics and interests.

In the end, we hope to help you build a fantastic library as well as gained new knowledge and information.

The first book that we will discuss is The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison.

Book description: Pecola Breedlove, a young black girl, prays every day for beauty. Mocked by other children for the dark skin, curly hair, and brown eyes that set her apart, she yearns for normalcy, for the blond hair and blue eyes that she believes will allow her to finally fit in.Yet as her dream grows more fervent, her life slowly starts to disintegrate in the face of adversity and strife. A powerful examination of our obsession with beauty and conformity, Toni Morrison’s virtuosic first novel asks powerful questions about race, class, and gender with the subtlety and grace that have always characterized her writing.

Our first discussion will start on March 1st and it will cover the first section of the book which is entitled, “Autumn”. If interested, please make sure to join in on the discussion.

Yep, another good point. It’s so weird because these folks act like the Obama’s are their servants or Barack is some superhero who is supposed to save the day. Honestly, they should be grateful...
