If You Can Afford A Home Now Is The Best Time To Buy News: Freddie Mac (FMCC) announced on Thursday that according to its market survey, interest rates for 30-year and 15-year fixed-rate mortgage loans hit their all-time lows. The rate declines came on the heels of the Federal Reserve’s “Operation Twist,” where the central bank announced plans to shift its investment strategy toward longer-term securities, in an effort to push long-term interest rates lower, while keeping short-term rates at very low levels. Economic News: The economy is showing signs of modest improvement — not enough to reduce high unemployment but enough to ease fears that another recession might be near. Fewer people applied for unemployment benefits last week, though some of the drop was due to technical factors. And the economy expanded slightly more in the second quarter than previously estimated. The administration’s move came after a challenge to the reform from 26 states and small businesses. News: As the death toll from the listeria outbreak climbed, federal health officials issued new warnings Wednesday to consumers to dispose of any cantaloupe they have if they don’t know where it’s from. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed 72 illnesses, including 13 deaths, from listeriosis linked to whole melons grown by Jensen Farms in Holly, Colo.
