As early as 1715 or 1720, a few traders ventured west of the Alleghanies, but the first serious attempt at settlement was the formation of the Ohio Company in 1748. Their children were in order of birth: Catherine (1796), Susannah (1798), Sarah (1801), Mary (1803), Joseph (1805), Jacob (b/d 1806), Isaac (1806), Daniel (1810), John, Jr. (1812), Jacob (1813), Benjamin (1815), Samuel (1818) and Madison (Rev.)(1821).
