Probably be pushing it for anything over 1/8 aluminum. Depends on what you are using it for? That means changing welding equipment like shielding gas, unplugging or plugging in other tools, etc. Take a look at the tabulated comparison between the two popular ESAB Rebel EMP welders. QuickTech allows you to switch between the processes in a blink of an eye. 
Here is a decent comparison video between the miller 220 and the ESAB AC/DC. You see this many options in nearly all modern stick welders, such as ESAB Rogue or YesWelder YWA-160. ESABhas the Iron Clad Pledge and is standing behind the machine 100%! But I've had really solid luck with Miller and feel it would hold its value better. Though, we appreciate not every workshop will have the budget for it. The ESAB 205 is a more portable welder to bring on several jobs than Miller 220.
