Welcome Home Troops News: Reporting from Khabari al Awazem Border Crossing,— The last serial, or U.S. military convoy group, to exit Iraq just after dawn Sunday consisted of 28 vehicles. In the lead vehicle were Spc. Justin Moreland and Sgt. Rene Sifuentes, who crossed the border into Kuwait in the harsh glare of assembled TV news crews and photographers. They knew the departure of the last U.S. soldiers from Iraq was a big media moment, of course, because it was a huge moment for them too. Read more here.
Another Day, Another Recall News: Tyson Fresh Meats Inc., a Dakota City, Neb. establishment, is recalling approximately 40,948 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced last Friday. The following products are subject to recall: 10-pound chubs of “CHUCK FINE GROUND BEEF 80/20,” packed in cases containing eight chubs. Read more here.
Jesus, Please Take The Wheel News: As Deloris Gillespie went up the elevator to her fifth-floor Brooklyn apartment, carrying groceries, a man was waiting. His face was one her neighbors later recognized, and she surely must have, too. Surveillance video from inside the small elevator shows that he looked something like an exterminator, with a canister sprayer, white gloves and a dust mask, which was perched atop his head. The sprayer was full of flammable liquid. Read more here.
This Is What A Smart & Competent Government Looks Like News: The amount the U.S. obtained in cases involving fraud against the government held steady at about $3 billion in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30. Assistant Attorney General Tony West, who heads the Justice Department’s civil division, announced the total amount of settlements and judgments recovered under the False Claims Act at a briefing today for reporters in Washington.
