The number one TV show was Marcus Welby MD, followed closely by The Flip Wilson Show, Here’s Lucy, Ironside and Gunsmoke.
The top broadway play was “Applause”.
The number one R&B song of the year was the Jackson 5’s “The Love You Save” On the Pop Charts the number one song was Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.”
In Sports:
On June 12th Dock Ellis of the Pittsburgh Pirates throws a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres. It is later revealed that he did so while under the influence of LSD.
The Knicks win the NBA Championship over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl over the Minnesota Vikings
Tragedy struck twice with college football teams. On October 2nd The Wichita State University football team plane crash claims approximately half the football team when one of two planes crashes on the way to a game at Utah State University. And then on November 14th A plane carrying most of the Marshall University team crashes just short of landing near Huntington, West Virginia, killing all 75 aboard, including 37 players.
