Good Morning POU!
Let’s revisit The Great Migration. As you know, the regular commenting Fam here at POU hail from all over the country. We have born and bred southerners and born and bred northerners, and westerners too. Yet we are still all one.
There were actually two waves of this migration. Most historians recognize this first wave, illustrated by the map above, and a second wave after World War II, that lasted until 1970.
I asked my father years ago how people wound up in various cities up north. How did our cousins wind up in Detroit, Cleveland? Why are so many born and bred Mississipians, related to folks in Chi-town? My dad replied “because that’s where the bus stopped.”
So we’ll take a look at stories and research into this very interesting transformation of African Americans in this country. Paintings, music, books, papers….everything dedicated to The Great Migration.
