Am I the only one that wasn’t really sure what exactly “Holistic Health” meant? I thought I knew, but I really didn’t.
According to the wiki:
Holistic health is a concept in medical practice upholding that all aspects of people’s needs, psychological, physical and social should be taken into account and seen as a whole. http://halifaxartfestival.com/xanax. As defined above, the holistic view on treatment is widely accepted in medicine. A different definition, claiming that disease is a result of physical, emotional, spiritual, social and environmental imbalance, is used in alternative medicine.
See, I thought “holistic” and “alternative” were interchangeable – not necessarily so.
Some of the practices of alternative holistic health include, but are not limited to:
- natural diet and herbal remedies
- nutritional supplements
- exercise
- relaxation
- psycho-spiritual counseling
- meditation
- breathing exercises
- acupuncture
- homeopathy
- massage therapy
Now, I’m a pretty conventional type, so the whole acupuncture, homeopathy thing would be REALLY different for me. And I am sure, contrary to what Mista Rastafarian man told me in the holistic store on Lowery Blvd (it certainly SMELLED holistic), that marijuana is NOT an herbal supplement/remedy for pain. I’ll stick to my 800mg of Tylenol for my cramps thank you very much. HOWEVER! I am open to experimenting with natural ways to cure small things like headaches, cramps, etc in the future. I don’t want to be popping pills all my life.
So have any of you switched from more traditional medicines to natural remedies and see definite improvements in how your body reacts, performs? Have you tried acupuncture or have regular massages to relieve pain?
When I visited the Midtown Wellness Center for my colonic, there were quite a few services that I knew nothing about that were on their menu of holistic treatments.
Ear Candling – Ear candling originated in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Atlantis, Lemuria, Mu, India, China, Tibet, and Native American cultures thousands of years ago. All of these cultures utilized ear candling in healing and in spiritual purification. These ancient cultures used papyrus reeds, corn stalks, clay tubes with double helixes carved into them, and in more recent times, rolled newspaper dipped in wax. Ear candling is a safe, effective, relaxing way to remove wax, yeast and debris from the ear canal.
Reflexology- – Reflexology is a holistic and non-invasive approach to mind/body therapy. Various points on the feet correspond to the organs and centers of the body. Put your feet up and enjoy.
I’m gonna try the Reflexology and report back.
What say you? What have you tried in the way of holistic health? Willing to try one of these regimens? Share!
