Yeah…….stress. It is killing us, literally.
For many of us with hectic, stressful lives, relaxation means zoning out in front of the TV at the end of the day or snatching some extra sleep at the weekend. Unfortunately, this does little to help reduce the damaging effects of stress on the mind and body.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, African-Americans have additional stress burdens:
It’s no secret that stress contributes to a cornucopia of health problems, from hypertension to heart disease. But new research shows the consequences of psychological stress resulting from racial discrimination may contribute to racial health disparities in conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other age-associated diseases.
So how do we combat this? Walking? Yoga? Cursing somebody out real good? This is an open forum to share and discuss various ways you’ve dealt with stress in your life. Whether its exercise, prayer, getting a monthly massage, sweatin up the sheets with your boo, whatever. Tell it, share it!
