Great read for those that are unaware of how the most famous dance club voice ever had to fight for her credits: How the voice behind “It’s Raining Men,” “Gonna Make You Sweat” and “Strike It Up” went from being a bullied victim to an industry pioneer
This was the first song that Martha Wash had to sue over. The song featured her uncredited lead vocals. In the music video released, Wash’s vocals were lip-synched by Seduction’s April Harris. Wash herself, angry about not receiving proper credit for her work on the song, had to resort to legal action, and successfully sued Sony Records to receive full credit as well as her share of the royalties.
