Today’s open thread will highlight some great R&B singers from our neighboring country up north.
Jully Black (born Jullyann Inderia Gordon; November 8, 1977) is a Canadian R&B singer–songwriter and actress. She has collaborated and written for many artists, including Nas, Saukrates, Choclair, Kardinal Offishall, Destiny’s Child and Sean Paul.
She was chosen by CBC Music as one of “The 25 Greatest Canadian Singers Ever” and has been dubbed “Canada’s Queen of R&B” by fans and peers.

Melanie Fiona Hallim (born July 4, 1983), known professionally as Melanie Fiona, is a Canadian R&B recording artist. She was born and raised in Toronto.[1] She started her career in 2002 as part of a Canadian musical girl band trio X-Quisite that was nominated for “R&B/Soul Recording of the Year” for the band’s album X-Quisite. She went on to be part of The Renaissance (with rapper Drake), and under the name Syren Hall, recorded some reggae songs.

Divine Brown (born September 9, 1974), previously known as Divine Earth Essence, is a Canadian Juno Award Winning R&B and Soul singer and theatre performer.
She is currently signed to Universal Music Canada.

Tamia Marilyn Hill (born May 9, 1975), known professionally as Tamia, is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She is best known for her first Top 40 hit on the R&B charts “You Put A Move On My Heart”, her 2001 hit “Stranger in My House”, Fabolous’ 2003 hit “Into You” (which samples her 1998 song “So into You”), her 2006 hit “Me” and her 2012 hit “Beautiful Surprise”.

Ralph Jordon Croucher, better known by his stage name JRDN (born November 14, 1978), is a Canadian R&B recording artist. He also currently serves as a Youth Ambassador for D250 and was a delegate in the Citizen Voices program.
