In the age of the praise team and worship leader, choirs were becoming extinct in churches. More so, it was becoming increasingly harder to buy quality music that was relevant from burgeoning choirs. Then in stepped Verizon with its How Sweet the Sound competition.
How Sweet The Sound began as a local choir competition for Verizon in Memphis back in 2007, but when more than 10,000 jammed into the Fedex Forum and some had to be turned away, Verizon executives thought they might have something. Now it is a national competition drawing the best gospel choirs from across the nation.
There are three separate rounds involving regional contests in different cities across the country, and a grand finale Round at which the regional finalists will be invited to sing to win the honor of being named the Best Church Choir in America and a chance at cash and prizes totaling over $50,000.
