My delicate delicate ears!!
Benjamin Clarence “Bull Moose” Jackson (April 22, 1919 – July 31, 1989) was a blues inger and saxophonist, who was most successful in the late 1940s. He is considered a performer of dirty blues, because of the suggestive nature of some of his songs, such as “I Want a Bowlegged Woman” and “Big Ten Inch Record”.
I want a bow legged
Woman that’s all
I want a bow legged
Woman that’s all
I’ll fall in love with
Her right from the start
Because her big fat
Legs are so far apart
I want a bow legged
Woman right now
I want to find me
A gal somehow
She’s gotta be built like an ol’ bass fiddle
Big bow legs and a hole in the middle
Gotta be on my way,
To find a bow legged
Woman today.
Jackson was born Benjamin Joseph Jackson in Cleveland, Ohio. He played violin as a child but quickly became drawn to the saxophone and started his first band, the Harlem Hotshots, while he was still in high school. In 1943, he was recruited as a saxophonist by the bandleader Lucky Millinder, and the musicians in Millinder’s band gave him the nickname “Bull Moose” for his appearance.
(please watch the video for Nosey Joe, you won’t regret it!)
There’s a man in town
All the women know
He goes by the name of Nosey Joe
He don’t care if they’re married
He takes his pick
Long as they’re women
He’s ready to stick
His big nose in their business
His big nose in their business
That’s Nosey Joe
The nosiest guy I know
He ain’t good lookin’
And he ain’t big and strong
That guy’s got a nose that’s four foot long
I’m tellin’ you women, this ain’t no jive
If you get too close this man will drive
His big nose in your business
His big nose in your business
That’s Nosey Joe
The nosiest guy I know
I saw him just the other day
Tried to steal my gal away
He offered her money
He offered her love
She said “thank you sir
But please don’t shove”
Your big nose in my business
Your big nose in my business
That’s Nosey Joe
The nosiest guy I know
Old Nosey finally lost his life
Messin’ with my buddy’s wife
My buddy he caught him with his chick
Chopped off his nose
Now he can’t stick
His big nose in your business
His big nose in my business
That’s Nosey Joe
The nosiest guy I know
Some of Jackson’s risqué material, including “Big Ten Inch Record” and “Nosey Joe” caused a sensation during live performances but were too suggestive for the radio, and few of the records were sold. However, his band faithfully played “Big Ten Inch Record” at every show.
Got me the strangest woman
Believe me this chick’s no cinch
But I really get her going
When I take out my big ten inch
Record of a band that plays the blues
The band that plays the blues
She just loves my big ten inch
Record of her favorite blues
Last night I tried to tease her
I gave her a little pinch
But she said, “Now stop that jivin’.
And get out that big ten inch.”
Record of a band that plays the blues
Well, the band that plays the blues
She just loves my big ten inch
Record of her favorite blues
I cover her with kisses
When we’re in a lover’s clinch
And when she gets all excited
She begs for my big ten inch
