J-O-B-S Jobs, Bishes! News: The number of people who filed for unemployment benefits last week dropped again to 390,000, the lowest level since April, continuing a trend that bodes well for job growth. The number of initial jobless claims was down 10,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 400,000, the Labor Department reported Thursday. The initial figure for two weeks ago was 397,000, but was revised upward. Still, over the last month, the average weekly number of jobless claims is right at 400,000 — a key figure that economists say indicates a decrease in the unemployment rate. Read more here.
Three Of The Things About The GOP That I Would Get Rid Of Would Be Ummmmmm…..Ooops News: Rick Perry brushed off a gaffe from Wednesday’s debate, saying one mistake may in fact humanize him and certainly will not tank his campaign the way some strategists are predicting. On Wednesday night in Michigan, Perry said he would cut three agencies from the federal government but could only name two of them. Read more here.
Jesus, Please Take The Wheel News: Japanese aid worker Atsushi Miyazaki came to Turkey in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake last month, tasked with assessing damage and distributing relief supplies to survivors. Then he too became a victim of Turkey’s treacherous fault lines on Thursday, fatally injured when a hotel, weakened by the earlier tremor, collapsed in a second quake that killed at least nine others. Dozens of angry residents protested at the rubble of the downtown hotel where 41-year-old Miyazaki died, arguing that authorities should have closed it and another levelled hotel because they had been damaged by the first temblor. As If I Needed Another Reason To Avoid Wal-Mart News: Wal-Mart is seeking more information about what it would take to integrate healthcare services into its network of retail stores. In Rohnert Park, the international super-chain, which operates 4,400 retail stores nationwide, came under fire in July 2010 after the City Council OK’d the company’s expansion into a grocery store on Redwood Drive.
