Jesus, Please Take The Wheel News: A former employee ran into a FedEx facility in Bedford Park this morning and opened fire, sending workers scrambling for cover before he turned the gun on himself, according to police and witnesses. Several witnesses said the ex-employee entered the building at 5151 W. 73rd St. shortly before 8 a.m. and jumped into a vehicle and started firing. About an hour later, with police stationed outside, the man shot himself, the witnesses said. There were no reports of other injuries. Read more here.
Economic News: Claims for unemployment benefits dropped to the lowest level in seven months and housing starts exceeded forecasts, signaling improvement in the weakest areas of the U.S. economy. Applications for jobless benefits decreased 5,000 in the week ended Nov. 12 to 388,000, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. Starts decreased 0.3 percent to a 628,000 annual rate in October, according to the Commerce Department. The median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News called for a drop to 610,000. Building permits, a proxy for future construction, jumped 10.9 percent. Read more here.

Rick Perry on Wednesday night said President Barack Obama “grew up in a privileged way” and that America’s foreign policy reputation has suffered because of the president’s “mentality that he’s the smartest guy in the room.” “It reveals to me that he grew up in a privileged way,” Perry said of Obama when asked by host FOX News host Sean Hannity to comment on the president’s recent comment that American business interests have been “lazy” in their approach to the global economy. “He never had to really work for anything.” Read more here.
Another Day, Another Recall News: J.M. Smucker Co has recalled about 300 cases of its Natural Chunky Peanut Butter because of possible Salmonella contamination though there have been no reports of illnesses, the company said on Thursday. Smucker said it found the possible contamination in routine sampling of the 16-ounce jars, was confident it had an isolated issue, and had retrieved the majority of the peanut butter. Read more here.
