Must Be From All Those Rats Leaving Money Boo Boo’s Sinking Ship News: A hantavirus outbreak at Yosemite National Park has claimed its third victim, and two other park attendees have recently become ill, bringing the total case count up to eight. As such, Yosemite authorities — including the National Park Service and park contractor DNC Parks & Resorts — are sounding the alarm, sending emails and letters to those who vacationed in the High Sierra tents area and other park locations such as the Boystown tents in Curry Village, where seven of the eight infected were said to have resided. A total of 22,000 park visitors have received the warning thus far. Read more here.
Aw Jeez, Not This Shit Again News: Moody’s has threatened to downgrade America’s prized triple A credit rating if Congress fails to reach a deficit reduction deal, raising the stakes in the fiscal debate that lies at the heart of the November election. The rating agency said on Tuesday it is considering joining its rival Standard & Poor’s, which stripped the US of its top rating last year, if a deal is not reached by the end of 2013. Pump The Jam, When I’m Gettin Down News: Bradley Birkenfeld, a former banker at UBS, recently completed a 2 1/2-year prison sentence for conspiring with a wealthy California developer to evade United States income taxes. But Mr. Birkenfeld, 47, has a lot to show for his time and effort: The Internal Revenue Service acknowledged Tuesday that information he had provided was so helpful he would receive a $104 million whistle-blower award for revealing the secrets of the Swiss banking system.
