POTUS News: President Barack Obama declared Wednesday that there could be no shortcut to peace between Israel and the Palestinians, as he sought to head off a looming diplomatic crisis for the Middle East and U.S. policy there. “Peace will not come through statements and resolutions at the U.N. — if it were that easy, it would have been accomplished by now,” the president told United Nations delegates. “Ultimately, it is Israelis and Palestinians who must live side by side. Everyday I’m Hustlin’ News: Apple is expected to introduce the next version of its iPhone on 4 October, when the new chief executive Tim Cook will demonstrate his grip on the company after having taken over from Steve Jobs in August. The unveiling is also expected by many to include a simpler version of last year’s iPhone 4 – which has become the best-selling smartphone in the world since its launch in June 2010 – which will allow Apple to attack China’s huge market. Here’s Some Good News For Once News: A federal judge on Wednesday upheld a key provision of the landmark U.S. voting rights law aimed at protecting minorities in states and local governments with a history of racial discrimination. News: Two top executives from a bankrupt California solar energy company say they will invoke the Fifth Amendment when they appear at a House hearing on Friday. Solyndra’s CEO Brian Harrison and Chief Financial Officer W.G. Stover sent letters to the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Tuesday saying they will not answer questions when they appear on Capitol Hill. The letters cite the FBI’s ongoing criminal investigation. Read more here.
Blood On Their Hands News: With only a few hours remaining before Troy Anthony Davis’ execution scheduled for tonight, his lawyers are pursuing final appeals and protests are mounting. Davis, 42, has been here before. On three prior occasions, the state of Georgia set his execution date and on each occasion — once with just about two hours to go — he was granted stays. But Davis and his lawyers had pinned their hopes this week on the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, which has the sole authority in Georgia to commute a death sentence.
