News: Seven Long Island, New York, students were charged with taking part in a scheme in which six of them paid the seventh to take the SAT college-admissions test on their behalf, prosecutors said. Six current or former students at Great Neck North High School, about 20 miles east of Manhattan, are accused of paying Samuel Eshaghoff, 19, of Great Neck, to impersonate them so they could get higher scores on the test, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen M. Another Day, Another Recall News: Tyson, the biggest meat processor in the United States, is recalling 131,300 pounds of ground beef sold in 14 states after an outbreak of e.coli in Ohio, US food inspectors said Wednesday. The ground beef — enough for more than half a million hamburgers — was sold with a best-before date of September 12, but the Department of Agriculture fears that much of it may have been frozen by consumers for later use. Crappy Economic News: Orders for big manufactured goods in the US fell slightly in August after a sharp jump in the previous month, due in part to a fall in demand for cars. Durable goods orders fell by 0.1% to $201.8bn, roughly in line with expectations, after a 4.1% rise in July, the Commerce Department said. I Guess It’s True When They Say That There’s A Sucker Born Every Minute News: Reebok International Ltd. has agreed to pay $25 million in refunds to consumers to settle charges by the Federal Trade Commission that the company falsely claimed that its toning shoes and other products strengthened muscles. “Consumers expected to get a workout, not to get worked over,” David Vladeck, director of the agency’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in announcing the settlement Wednesday.
