Happy Hump Day POU!
We continue looking at the talented and creative designers behind some of our most beloved films and entertainment venues.
Sharen Davis
Sharen Davis is a favorite costume designer among directors thanks to her extraordinary attention to detail. Twice nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, first in Ray and then again for the Dreamgirls, Sharen has also received multiple nominations from the Costume Designers Guild and was recognized by the New York Women in Film and Television organization during their 7th Annual Designing Hollywood Tribute.
Sharen worked with Denzel Washington on his directorial debut film, Antwone Fisher, collaborating again with him as director on The Great Debaters, and as an actor in The Book of Eli. She received rave reviews for her work on the Academy Award nominated film, The Help, while Looper featured Sharen’s remarkably fresh take on a futuristic look and seamless style continuity for the central character, played by Joseph Gordon Levitt as a young man who squares off against his future self, played by Bruce Willis.
Sharen’s work on Django Unchained was widely covered in the media, especially the much-talked about blue suit designed for Jamie Foxx’s character in the film. Recently, Sharen completed the upcoming Legendary Pictures film, Godzilla.
Fun fact: Sharen recruited one of her favorite couture designers to create a key look for Dreamgirls. Neeam Kahn made the titanium chain-mail dresses the trio wears in the closing number. Each dress weighs about 12 pounds and would sell for more than $10,000, Davis said.
